Kiko
Meet Kiko, a 6-year-old male Maltese, who presented with scaling and crusting in the groin area for almost a month. His main areas of concern were the ears and groin, and samples were taken for cytology.
Diagnostic findings:
- Left ear: Yeast 1+, very few scattered cocci
- Right ear: Yeast 1+
- Groin: Very few neutrophils and scattered cocci
Treatment plan initiated:
- Specific oral anti-itch medication
- Oral antibiotic and anti-inflammatory
- Topical antibiotic and anti-inflammatory ointments
- Omega supplements
- Oatmeal-based shampoo
At the first follow-up, we saw drastic improvement in Kiko. The affected areas looked much better, and repeat cytology showed nothing alarming in the ears, while the groin had improved well. The anti-itch medication was tapered, and he continued only on topical treatment.
By the second follow-up, the lesion had completely resolved. Kiko was taken off oral medications, and routine skin care maintenance was advised.
So glad to see our little Kiko doing so well!
